Frequently Asked Questions

When does the Little Black Dress Initiative begin? LBDI officially kicks off on February 12th and concludes on February 16th. However, donors can continue to support your campaign during the week following 2/16.

How can I contact the LBDI committee? Email the committee members at LittleBlackDress@jlbonline.com

Do I have to wear black for five consecutive days? Yes! However, we encourage members to change up their outfit with fun accessories and by adding your LBDI button.

What is the button, and where can I get one? Buttons and business cards are available at the front desk of the League building. Each button and card include a QR code that takes your donors directly to the donation page! It’s an easy way to spread the word about LBDI and gain additional support for your campaign.

How do I register in Swell? Members register in Swell by visiting https://checkout.swell.gives/jlb/register and creating an account.

Do I need to re-register if I participated last year? Yes, all members need to register again, even if you participated via Swell last year.

How can I shorten my Swell link to share on social media? Your personal link to share on social media can be shortened to jlb.littleblackdress.gives/users/firstname.lastname.

How can my donors give? At this time, Swell accepts credit card donations, Google Pay, or Apple Pay via the LBDI giving page. We do not accept cash, Venmo, or PayPal.

I don’t have social media. How can I raise funds for my campaign? If you don’t use social media, don’t worry! You can visit our Resources page to see examples of text messages and emails that you can send to your supporters instead.

Do I have to post on social media every day of the campaign? While not required, it’s strongly encouraged. Let the social media kit do the hard work for you! We make it easy by providing captions and photos for you to utilize, but you’re welcome to get creative. The social media kit is also available on your member homepage.

When can I start raising money? You can begin asking for donations as soon as you create your Swell account.

What are some tips for fundraising? Members who post frequently, repost/share links from others, publicly thank those who have given to their campaign, and reach out via text and email to supporters not using social media are the most successful! The more you promote LBDI and your campaign, the most donations you’re likely to receive.

Can anyone donate to my campaign? Yes, donors don’t have to live in Birmingham (or even Alabama!) to support your campaign.

Are there prizes for raising the most money or receiving the most “likes” on my social media posts? Yes! There are incentives for those that choose to go above and beyond during the LBDI fundraising campaign.

When will I receive credit for raising at least $100? Members who meet their LBDI quota will see the credit on their member homepage 2-4 weeks after the campaign concludes.

I still have questions- who do I contact? Email additional questions or concerns to LittleBlackDress@jlbonline.com
